The Tampa Bay Children's Chorus (TBCC) is dedicated to providing outstanding musical enrichment and learning opportunities for children in the Tampa Bay area. Through the study and performance of quality musical literature, our program allows children to develop musical artistry, poise, confidence, and self-discipline. The Chorus membership, now 150 strong, reflects the cultural and economic diversity of our community, brought together in a joyful, caring, and supportive environment.
The Chorus is open to students in grades 3-12, selected by audition, who are divided by age and ability into four choirs. TBCC also operates choral instruction programs at four area Boys and Girls Clubs, giving even more children the opportunity to experience the wonder of music. Founded by Dr. Averill Summer in 1989, the Chorus has been honored to receive funding from the State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, the Community Foundation of Tampa, and many businesses and private foundations in the region. The Chorus has had an outstanding performance history locally, nationally and internationally. Here at home, the Chorus performs regularly with the Florida Orchestra, the Master Chorale, the Tampa Oratorio Society, and the choirs and orchestras of the University of South Florida. Nationally, the Chorus has represented our community with performances in New York City, Washington, D.C. and across the state of Florida.
Internationally, the Chorus has participated in choral festivals in France, Austria, Scotland, England, and Canada. In June 2008 TBCC will sing at Carnegie Hall in a performance of Mass of the Children by John Rutter, conducted by the composer himself. They have been accepted to participate in the Pacific Rim Children’s Choir Festival in Hawaii in summer 2009.
