Tampa Bay Children's Chorus
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAM
TBCC is proud of its outstanding record of quality community programs:
TBCC Scholarship Program: Provides tuition scholarships for singers who would not otherwise be able to participate. Excluding the Boys and Girls Club program, for which there is no tuition charge, approximately 25% of the choristers at the Temple Terrace and downtown Tampa locations require scholarship assistance.
Boys and Girls Club Program: TBCC is proud of our innovative and growing outreach program for under-served children. Now in its fifth year, this program brings high quality music education into area Boys and Girls Clubs locations: the Joe and Anne Garcia Club/Salesian Center, Tampa; the Bill Carey Club, Brandon; and the Zonta Club, Tampa, and the Wilbert Davis Club, Tampa. A fifth Club location will be announced for the 2007-2008 season.
Community SongFests partner TBCC with area elementary and middle chorus groups. Each school group performs individually, and then the groups join to sing several pieces together. Through these concerts, which are widely attended in each community, the participants and their parents gain performance experience, as well as exposure to a wide variety of classical and traditional children's choral music.
Intergenerational Concerts: TBCC enjoys performing at area retirement homes and assisted-living facilities. This outreach program enables the choristers to use their music in service to concerts bring music and entertainment to the lives of the residents, and more importantly, provide a rare opportunity for the generations to make music together. For many of the children, these concerts are the highlight of the year. Past performances have included John Knox Village, Sun City Center, University Village, and Grand Court.
All-State Preparation Workshop: Each fall, TBCC offers an All-State Preparation Workshop for singers auditioning for the Florida Middle School Mixed or Treble All-State Choruses. The students work with the TBCC artistic staff to learn and prepare music for the auditions.
Choral Festival Tours: Each summer, members of the Concert Choir travel to sing in a Children's Choral Festival in the U.S. or worldwide. Our singers are proud to represent the Bay Area, and they are superb ambassadors to the world. TBCC will participate in the 2008 International Children's Choral Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
